So now after you have your own domain name and hosting account set up, written a number of posts that grab people`s attention, you`re ready to welcome your new readers and become the authority in your niche. But nothing showed up in your comment box after you waited for a day or two..or a week. It`s so silent you`ll shout Hoorrayyy! when a spam comment arrives :) .

Maybe you`d thought that well written content should be enough to lure readers to your blog. But sadly, it takes more than that nowadays. Blogging has become more challenging even from the beginning. There are lots of blogs with content and ideas you haven`t thought of before out there, but many of them are left undiscovered like a hidden city of gold.

If that`s the case, what should you do to make your articles found? How to broadcast the existence of your blog? Here are concrete and free actions you can apply to shout your blog to the world:

  • Visit another blog and comment Try to discover the leaders of your niche/topic. If you think that you`re the leader then seek for the second best :) . Go to their blog and find posts that interest you and comment on the articles. Avoid one liner comments and allow yourself to put maximum 1 link on the comment. To limit which link to be included in your comment, a link to your article is better than a link to your frontpage. This way, your comment will have to relate to both of your article and the article you comment on. If there is no link to supply, drop a constructive, proper criticism, another point of view, or some ideas you think that the author have missed. A good one will spark curiosity and people will try to find out who`s the blogger behind the comment by clicking your name. That`s when you get your blog a new reader.
  • Mention others on your post and make them curious The ping and trackback technology in the blogosphere enables you to be discovered by other bloggers via links you have on your blog. For example, you made an article related to another blogger`s post about hoarding syndrome and on your article you link to his/her post (just like I did on the hoarding syndrome link). What happens next is the blogger can see that there`s an incoming link to one of his/her articles and usually, h/she will take a look on what kind of post linked to his/hers. Hopefully h/she finds the blog`s content is interesting and become a new reader.
  • Advance to guest posting Almost similar to dropping comments on prominent blogs in your niche, this action will get you a bigger exposure as your opinion will be attached on the frontpage for a period of time. People will see your name in the first place instead of on the comment section below the post. Guest posting does require folds more effort than just commenting but it will reward you the most. Another advantage of guest blogging is that you can acquire a number of new readers in an instance. If they like your guest post, they may subscribe to your blog as well.
  • Find your readers` gathering place Which one is easier? Finding someone interested in paintings and sculptures inside a museum or a mall? You can meet new readers who will be interested in your articles in forums, articles directories, social medias or groups that relates on your niche. You can submit your best articles to article directories and let people know your field of expertise. Forums allow you to have your signature attached on your every post, so don`t forget to put your link when setting up your profile. Additionally, don`t do it excessively especially if you`re a new member and avoid being looked like a spammer. Be active and responsive to the other member`s questions are the next steps. For social medias, you can gain popularity by submitting contents worth other members` time to read and sometimes they don`t always have to be your articles.
  • Business card in your email Beside forums, every email you send out can contain a part of your identity. You can attach your name, URL and even your physical address. Put some general information you want other people to know and you think it will be useful for them and try not to make it longer than the email content itself.
  • Make it easy for Google to find you Google is where almost everybody looks for everything now. Making your blog easier to be found by Google increases the chance people find your blog. Make a sitemap and submit it to Google. If you use Wordpress, you can generate your sitemap easily using this sitemap generator.
  • Do them all in balance with content Good content means nothing if they`re not discovered as well as people dislike discovering trashy content. Therefore, you should finalize your effort in composing killer content with dazzling marketing for your content.

There are lots of ways to jump start your blog`s publications. Do them once at at time instead of rushing with all methods you know. Observe which one is the best for your site and stick to it while exploring another possibility ono by one.

Commenting in other blogs is too important to your blog for two reasons. First, you will be contributing with an idea, so you could start a good discussion bringing many traffic to the blog. And second, it boost your popularity and brand, the people will see you everywhere and they will visit your blog. Nice tips

Couldn't have said it better myself. It's crucial to get out there and be part of the blogging community. If I had a nickle for every new blog I found while checking in on someone who wrote a comment, I'd be a rich rich man. Business card in the email is perfect too, some people might not know what you're up to, and could be interested. I would also suggest if you frequent any forums or message boards to put your blog URL in your signature. If it's a popular forum, that's some serious free advertising.

Thank you for the great tips! Making your blog a "do follow" blog can help too to get comments, like here. There is a lot of dofollow blog list of links out there, there is a mixx group where the alinks are all blog that "do follow". Also, you trick to link to other blogs is almost mandatory. Sometime with trackbacks, if you link to a well known site and if you're kinda lucky, you can get as much as 50 hits per day from just one trackback. It works best with website that list your post articles though.
